Geocoding

nominatim.eocube.ro is a Nominatim geocoder hosted by EOCube.ro at the West University of Timișoara. It finds places by name (geocoding) and names the place at given coordinates (reverse geocoding), on OpenStreetMap data. The search box on the EOCube.ro home page uses it. No account and no API key are needed.

Attribution

The results are OpenStreetMap data, published under the Open Database License (ODbL) ; every response repeats this in its licence field. Wherever you show or publish results, credit OpenStreetMap and the service hosted by EOCube.ro and the West University of Timișoara:

Coverage and updates

18 countries, in full: Romania and the Republic of Moldova; partially: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Türkiye and Ukraine (the area of the platform’s Sentinel-1 collections).
Updated every week from the OpenStreetMap changes of the week. /status?format=json states the date of the data.

The service is the standard Nominatim API , with the same parameters and output formats (json, jsonv2, geojson, geocodejson, xml).

In a web page, call it with fetch (CORS is open to every origin); in QGIS, the Nominatim locator filter accepts a custom service URL in recent versions.

Fair use

Anonymous requests are limited to 10 per second per IP address, with short bursts allowed; above that the service answers 429 Too Many Requests. Requests carrying a valid EOCube.ro access token (Authorization: Bearer …) get a much higher limit.
Send a User-Agent (or a Referer from a web page) that identifies your application, and cache results: the same query gives the same answer until the weekly update.
For bulk geocoding of large lists, spread the requests out or download the OpenStreetMap data and run your own instance; for operational use, write to support@eocube.ro.
